We were invited to participate in Fleurs De Villes' 4th Annual NOEL flower walk; a 10-day celebration featuring festive floral installations by Vancouver's top Floral Designers. This will actually be our 3rd time desiging in one of FDV's events, in 2016 we had created a blue delphinium and pampas dress
and again in 2017 we made an yellow dress
with leaf skeletons, babysbreath and daffodils.
This year, there is over 50 Installations throughout downtown Vancouver where you'll see floral archways, decorated bus stops, hanging installations, adorned bikes, Holiday Scenes and more of their signature Floral dresses. Its an impressive display of the creative talent we have in this city.
As a florist, you're given a location, creative brief and set budget. We are asked to supply FDV with a mood board and a preliminary list of the flowers we are using. When we began designing we had two goals in mind, to keep it festive and long-lasting. We wanted to allocate the bulk of our budget into the whole design as it was seen, rather than saving it to refresh and replace flowers throughout the week. In doing this, you forgo a more bloomy design, which is okay as it stays on brand with how we design normally. It was also a huge archway, so in order to cover all 4 sides of our frame, a greenery base was pretty much a necessity. Given those parameters, we chose a festive greenery for the base and used cedar and pine to cover the arch. These two greens aren’t particularly fluffy or full, so to cover any holes or bare spots with used babysbreath and limonium to fill. To make it festive we used seasonal berries and colour, by adding ilex and red & pink carnations.
From arriving to clean up it took 3 hours to build while the rain tried its best to give us a decent window to create. We were close to a Starbucks which fuelled us, and the passing tourists and Vancouverites who said kind words of encouragement and thanks for making the city pretty put us in the holiday spirit, it was such a heartwarming experience.
We’re located on the corner of Robson & Thurlow. We hope you take advantage of this incredible event and tour some amazing work created by many of our flower friends. We hope you enjoy!
The event runs from Dec 9-18 in Downtown Vancouver. For more information, installation map and list of events please visit Fleurs De Villes’ Website.
